Figurative Language Story Project

At the end of the school year, it's extremely important to keep your students engaged, working, learning, and BUSY!  I have activities for the last few weeks of school for this very reason so that classroom management is under control and my students don't feel as if that time is just a waste.

One of the projects I started a few years ago was a Figurative Language Story.  We learn many types of figurative language throughout the year (simile, metaphor, personification, idiom, proverb, adage, alliteration, etc.)  To finally assess these in a fun way, I have my students create a short story about any topic they choose.  Throughout the story, they need to use at least one of each of the previously mentioned types of figurative language.  To make it fun, they have to have each example on a different page of the book and make it POP so I can instantly find it.  They can add more figurative language in, but I must see one different one on each page.

I definitely suggest finding creative projects for your students as the year begins to wind down so that the remaining time you have is useful, constructive, and also a lot of fun for both you and your students.
